Abu Dhabi | Boomah | The Owl Cafe

Boomah is the only Owl Café in the UAE, with their idea originally inspired by Owl Cafes in Japan.

This is your chance to interact and learn about over 10 different species of owls.

How To Book

Once you arrive inside Boomah’s café entrance, you can either enjoy some food & drinks first or pay & head straight into their dedicated owl room.

Please note that they do not sell tickets online, so you won't be able to book prior to your visit.

You also don't have to pay to see their owls if you don't want to interact with them, as there is a glass viewing area separating the cafe and their dedicated owl room (that's what Robert chose to do).

You can simply order something from their cafe and enjoy watching the owls from your table!

When To Go

Boomah is open daily 2pm – 10pm.

Costs Involved

Adults: AED70pp

Children: AED50pp

Kids Pack (1 Adult & 3 Children): AED170 (AED30pp for additional children)

People of Determination: Free Entry

How To Get There

Located at Al Seef Mall | Al Seef Village Walk in Abu Dhabi, the quickest way to locate Boomah, is to enter via Al Seef Mall and walk towards the back of the shopping mall to the Al Seef Village entrance.

Once you have reached the Al Seef Village Walk entrance, turn right.

Then turn right again and walk underneath these white umbrellas, before you arrive at Boomah.

There are 2 entrances at Boomah (one is the café entrance on the left hand side in front of their outdoor dining).

And the other is their owl entrance (which is in front of their black board & Boomah flag).

You can only buy your tickets on the café side, as the owl door is locked (unless you knock and show your green entry ticket wristband).

They don't have a large selection of food & drinks available as it's quite a small cafe, so it's more of a dessert and drink kind of place.

Tips For Your Visit

There are no toilets available inside Boomah, so you'll need to use the public toilets located within walking distance either inside Al Seef Village or Al Seef Mall.

Should you wish to interact with their owls with less people around (especially for the best photos or videos), it is best to arrive at Boomah once they first open at 2pm (and ideally on a weekday), as they tend to get busy on weekends.

What To Expect

Once their friendly staff (and trained carers of these owls) have opened the door to their dedicated owl room and you are inside, they will help answer any questions you have about these owls.

Staff will also help you place an owl on your hand (using a fake green grass perch they supply) or place an owl on top of your head or body (using a hat that they provide).

You can choose to have more than 1 owl on your body at any one time, simply let their staff know your preferences.

All owls have a name board placed near their feet, which includes their name, the type of owl they are and the year they were born.

Boomah also sell a cute selection of owl themed merchandise such as shopping tote bags (AED39) or foldable cups (AED25).

The Verdict

Thomas really enjoyed finding all of the adorable owl statues around Boomah's cafe, so this gave him a great introduction to owls before he met their real life ones!

Thomas also loved trying on the different hats (probably more than the experience of having an owl sit on his hand though)!

Honestly, Thomas was probably a bit too young to enjoy 'interacting' with their owls as much as Hannah did as an adult, but Thomas did enjoy gently touching them or learning all of their names.

The whole experience doesn't typically last that long (but it's not timed), so you can spend shorter or longer inside their dedicated owl room and leave any time you've finished interacting with their beautiful owls.

We also wanted to point out that we found their owl room very clean and the owls really happy (as this was not our experience in a much smaller owl cafe in Japan).

Overall, this is a great animal experience for children & families, especially if you'd like to learn only about owls and have a fun few hours doing something unique together as a family.

Sounds like fun? Don’t just take our word for it, experience it for yourself.

Be inspired to start or add to your very own bucket lists.
