How To Book

In the lead up to their Matcha workshops, both Vanilla Sukkar and Megumi Matcha post an on-line link on their Instagram accounts that you can click on and book into their workshops.

When To Go

These Matcha workshops happen on average 1 - 2 times per month.

Costs Involved

AED200 per person.

How To Get There

These Matcha workshops are held at Vanilla Sukkar, which is an Emirati owned bakery in Umm Al Sheik, Dubai.

Vanilla Sukkar offers a gorgeous bakery cafe setting for your Matcha Workshop with lots of indoor plants, interesting books and dried flowers in the background.

Tips For Your Visit

There is off-street parking available a few doors down on either the left or right-hand side of this bakery.

There are no bathrooms inside this bakery, so Vanilla Sukkar will explain where the bathrooms are located outside their building.

You can purchase any extra food or beverages from Vanilla Sukkar before, during or after your Matcha workshop (at an additional charge).

What To Expect

These Matcha Workshops run for approximately 2 hours between 4pm - 6pm on 1 - 2 different Sunday afternoons per month.

Once you arrive at Vanilla Sukkar and choose your seat on their long table, you will see a selection of matcha related products placed directly in front of you.

These authentic Japanese matcha products include:

  • A traditional chaser (which is used to whisk your matcha)

  • Your bamboo chashaku (which is used instead of a spoon to bring your matcha powder into your cup)

  • A matcha cup (which you use to prepare your matcha and then drink your first matcha drink from)

  • A small stainless steel matcha strainer

  • Step-by-step instructions on beautiful Japanese paper about 'How To Make Matcha'

  • A wooden board which holds your chaser, bamboo chashaku and strainer

  • Business card from Megumi Matcha, should you wish to purchase their matcha powder from them directly in the future

Note that everyone will be provided with a different matcha cup (with a different Japanese design) to use and drink from during their workshop.

Vanilla Sukkar will also place a 2-tiered stand of delicious matcha desserts (some of these desserts may change each month).

At our Matcha workshop, we were offered the above selection of mouth-watering desserts which were:

  • Matcha pudding

  • Matcha macaroon

  • Danish with matcha cream and mango

  • Matcha, strawberry and white chocolate cookie

Their matcha, strawberry and white chocolate cookies were my personal favourite!

During this workshop, you will first learn about the history or matcha, the story of Megumi Matcha and then how to make the perfect matcha to drink yourselves.

Once you've made your delicious matcha drinks (2 in total: 1 hot matcha drink (without any milk) and 1 iced matcha latte with your milk of choice), you will then enjoy all of the delicious matcha desserts and your drinks together with everyone in your workshop.

Keep in mind that there is a real art to how you whisk your matcha powder, so Megumi Matcha will demonstrate everything beforehand.

Vanilla Sukkar provide you with maple syrup, sakura syrup and honey (should you wish to make your iced matcha latte sweeter.

They also provide your choice of oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk or full-fat milk to add into your iced matcha latte.

Once your Matcha Workshop has finished, you will also be gifted with your very own small packet of Megumi Matcha's ceremonial grade matcha for you to take home with you.
