Tips For Your Visit

There are toilets available inside this museum and whilst there are some ramps available to use, some of their site requires the use of stairs.

Therefore, it might be a good idea to keep prams outside the entrance of this museum, so you can walk around the entire museum more freely.

There is car-parking available right in front of this museum and once you are inside, there are both air-conditioned areas and areas outside to explore.

What To Expect

Keep an eye out for the old traditional Dhow Boat located in the carpark area, as this is a great place for photos!

There are also some old cannons placed at the front of this museum, so you can explore these too before you start your museum visit.

We were at this museum for just over an hour and we really enjoyed exploring so many different areas, including the ‘Late Fort’ and galleries.

Some of the areas inside this museum have open windows, which according to the Department of Antiquities and Museums for the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, ‘represented the traditional air conditioning of the past. It’s open sides are designed to catch the breeze from any direction and funnel it down into the room below keeping it cool and ventilated.’

We really liked how this same Government Department explained about the architecture at this museum with ‘all exhibition rooms are situated around the inner courtyard garden and can be entered through antique wooden doors with traditional carved designs.

The Verdict

Even though this could be seen as one of the lessor known museums in the UAE, we would still highly recommend visiting this museum.

We really enjoyed learning specifically about the history of Ras Al Khaimah and seeing how this Emirate has evolved over the years.

Sounds like fun? Don’t just take our word for it, experience it for yourself.
