What To Expect
Currently at the time of writing this blog article, there are 3 incredible exhibitions on display through Maraya Art Centre.
The first exhibition we saw at Maraya Art Centre was from British artist Chris Wood and her exhibition is titled Liquid Light.
Maraya Art Centre explained that her Liquid Light show ‘reveals a visual dialogue between water and light.’
What we really loved about this exhibition is that Chris Wood really does ‘encourage audiences to re-examine their relationship with the natural world.’
Chris Wood's 2nd exhibition is called Flutter and is located on Al Noor Island in Sharjah and this 'piece pays tribute to the migratory flight paths of some butterfly species.'
Both of Chris Wood's exhibitions in Sharjah are on until 30th June 2023.
The other exhibition on at Maraya Art Centre at the time of writing this blog article, is from Iraqi-Palestinian artist Sama Alshaibi called Tell It To The River, which is also on until the 30th June 2023.
This incredibly moving exhibition ‘portrays experiences of displacement, revolving around the social circumstances of an individual exiled from a city, a country and a citizenship as a result of war and migration.’
Sama Alshaibi showcases multiple mediums in her exhibition and audience are encouraged to stop and reflect on what it would have been be like over the past 40 years of her displacement from Southern Iraq..
The Verdict
Both Maraya Art Centre and Chris Wood's separate exhibition on Al Noor Island are definitely worth visiting, which helps to support the UAE’s growing art scene.
As Maraya Art Centre is located in the Al Qasba waterfront development in Sharjah, you can also visit one of the cafes or restaurants either before or after your visit to this art centre.
We went to Shababeek and we really enjoyed the Lebanese food at this restaurant.
Sounds like fun? Don’t just take our word for it, experience it for yourself.
